Climbing the Corporate Ladder
Articles > Exercise > Climbing the Corporate Ladder
Many of us are driven to succeed in the corporate world with thoughts of climbing that corporate ladder to the good life. What most of us may not consider, however, is the price we’re paying to do it. The sedentary lifestyle many Americans lead working in a corporate atmosphere may lead to their ultimate downfall. If a healthy lifestyle is a goal for you as you climb to the top, then there may be a couple things to consider.
Avoid the snack bowl at all costs. Many corporate environments come stocked with unhealthy treats to keep the workers busy. Wherever it may be hiding, in the lunchroom or at the executive assistant’s desk, if you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, you need to resist the temptation to snack all day. Many people take apple slices or pea pods to satisfy their oral cravings during the day. Many people develop the will power to simply walk away. Whatever the case may be, whatever may work for you, steer clear of those unhealthy snacks during the work day or you’ll be reaping the results with hours of extra work trying to lose those nagging extra pounds.
Go for a walk at lunch. Nobody ever said that you had to stay at the office during lunch. Of course there are those days when clients are in the house or your boss is feeling needy when you should stay in the house (obviously), but I’m guessing more often than not you choose to stay in out of laziness. If you want to burn a few extra calories here and there, take ten minutes of your lunch and walk the block around your office. It will not only burn those calories, but it will increase your metabolism and improve your overall outlook for the rest of your day. Walking can do that for you, but you have to make it happen.
If you’re looking to improve your nutrition (and we should all look to do this), then adding a multivitamin is the lazy man’s way of getting all their essentials every day. Pop a multivitamin in the morning and you can forget about making sure you get all the nutrients you need. You should watch out for the junk you may be tempted to eat the rest of your day, but starting with a multivitamin is always a good idea. While you’re at it though, you can do some research into essential fatty acids and make note of the right kinds of fats you should be eating every day. Balance is an important element to your nutrition if you want to live a truly healthy lifestyle, and we all need to eat fats, just the right kinds. Essential fatty acids provide the nutrients we need to process food and increase our energy. Watching what you eat is important, not only for what you should avoid but also for what you need to ensure you eat. Of course then, whey protein is an addition that will improve any diet. Whey protein helps our muscles recover more quickly and grow after our workouts. Add a whey protein shake to your meal and watch the results.
Climbing the ladder is important for all of us, but no one said we had to sacrifice our health to get there. In fact, if you do it right, climbing that ladder can actually end up helping your health and your wallet.
