It’s been a good summer. A lot of us were lucky enough to get out of our gym routine and explore different ways to work out, while some of us were unlucky enough to get stuck in a rut. Wherever you are in the life cycle of your workout, it’s a season of change, and maybe it’s time you changed as well.

If you’re looking for alternatives to your workout routine, there are a lot of sources you may consider tapping. Use the personal trainers at your gym. You always see them walking around with the people they are assisting, but everyone’s got to get a drink some time, so when they take a break, ask them for specifics about form or alternatives to a workout you’ve been doing. These people live and breathe for this stuff, so most of them will be happy to share their latest findings. If you’re real lucky, they’ll break it down for you in some detail and you can start using your new tricks immediately.

Check out the magazine rack at the library or your local bookstore. I always rip off great new workout routines when I’m waiting in line or passing some time. If your body is so used to your workout, you aren’t going to enjoy the great benefits you’re used to. It’s known as the “plateau effect” and you do just that…plateau. If you’re stuck in a routine, then finding something new, even if it’s just a small change to your regular rounds, \ could make a serious difference. I’d go so far as to advise you to steal workouts from the heavy lifters at the gym too. They obviously know what they’re doing, so if you can steal a set here and there that could do you some good, I’d say go for it.

Another way out of a rut is by changing your diet. Good nutrition and the right supplements are a clear way to improved health, we all know that. But most of us aren’t doing anything about it.
