At some point, most guys run into a wall with their arm workout. Performing the same routine over and over will only get you so far so if you are looking for a nice way to break the monotony of your arm workout, there is a move called the “drag curl” you might want to check out.

We all want big guns so adding fresh workouts to our routine may be essential to getting over the hump. The drag curl can help. Approach this exercise the same way you would a normal barbell curl, hands about shoulder width apart with the barbell hanging at your waist. Allow your arms to hang loosely to begin. From here, start by pulling the barbell toward your stomach, extending your elbows away from the back of your body. The bar will begin to drag up against your stomach. Next, squeeze your shoulder blades together and push your chest out as you continue to pull the barbell up your core. Drag the bar as high as you can, or as high as is comfortable, without shrugging your shoulders to get that height. The drag curl should not feel like you are curling the weight; it should almost feel like a row. Perform several sets and mess around with the number of reps, always looking to fatigue the muscle.

The drag curl will work for you because it keeps tension on your biceps throughout the entire move. A lot of time with a regular curl guys will let their elbows float forward while they curl transferring the weight onto the fronts of their shoulders and preventing the bicep from being fully stressed. By pulling your elbows back, the bicep is targeted.

Beyond a change in the weight room though, if you want to get big guns we all know we need to be using supplements. Whey protein and creatine are standards today for anyone who wants more size and strength. Whey protein has the specific attributes our muscles need to recover quickly and build healthy muscle fiber. Creatine is very similar to whey protein in that recovery is enhanced and size and strength are augmented, it is just a little more potent.
